Abstract Color Palettes
I debated for a while whether to go ahead and release them or not. I kept telling myself there needed to be more for some reason. That it wasn’t enough. But my color palettes are more intricate than they let on. They are inspired by current collections of works and the color palettes mixed for them as well as nature inspired surroundings. To push or rush felt inauthentic. These were painted over the past few weeks as a very dark, grey, and rainy winter season began to give way to hints of coming spring. They also lend their pastel base from the cloudscapes of the sunset series I painted in tandem. These represent a changing of seasons. A juxtaposition of dark and light, heaviness and lightness, sorrow and hope. All coexisting.

I think we live in a culture that glorifies more, more, more. In creative fields and specifically art, there is a constant pace for more works, more releases, more content ... I think especially so after a year like 2020. In a field that can ebb and flow constantly the added layer of uncertainty can fuel striving. Especially because there has, in some regards and cases, been more time to create. And yes, certainly those things are not bad things and are necessary to some extent to make it a viable source of income but it adds a pressure to create when, in fact, creativity must have space to breathe. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, the boundaries and balance of striving and rest. I feel the pressure too at times. We have to give ourselves permission to ruminate on works (and life in general) as they cure and develop and idle some in rest mode and not become a production line of content for the sake of content, preaching to the choir here. This goes for all creative fields. To release the striving.

So, I am going to release this small batch on Friday, March 26th at 11AM EST and plan to continue more throughout the coming months, all inspired by new seasons and palettes. Slow growth. So stick with me and stay tuned!
